It was back to work for me this week, as I enjoyed a little calm in the office before the storm known affectionately as “January-through-March.” Most people assume November (Thanksgiving) is my busiest time working for Minnesota Turkey, but the truth is, we’re busy all year long – and especially during the winter when we gear up for our annual convention.
In any case, today while I was checking out our Facebook page, I noticed my friends at the Iowa Turkey Federation posted a nifty little video from Iowa turkey farmer, Noel Thompson (who I’ve met!), about what it takes to keep turkeys warm and happy in the winter. And given that the current temperature is a sunny 3 degrees outside where I live, I thought I’d share it here.
I think it’s important to note there are many reasons why turkey farmers choose to raise their turkeys inside barns (read more detail here) – and certainly during the winter months in the Midwest, it makes total sense to keep the birds comfortable and out of the frigid cold elements. I have no doubt that turkeys are much happier this way!
Check out this one-minute video … and if you’re like me, you’ll chuckle at all the noise. The tom turkeys in the video were very vocal and just about stole the show from the farmer!
