I just had the BEST weekend. I cooked, I baked, I washed the sheets on every bed in the house, I planted my garlic and cut down my hydrangeas and peonies, I grocery shopped and menu planned for the upcoming week, I wrote blog posts (yes plural!), I vacuumed up the dog hair (a necessary evil with a pug), and I even watched a chick flick on Saturday night.

Whaaaat?

I know. Crazy talk. I was a one-woman happy homemaker goddess!

I love weekends like this, when we don’t have much of a schedule and I’m home to get life organized. Considering I’ll be gone for the next two weekends for sure, I know I’ll feel good about having food in the refrigerator, a relatively clean house, and most of my fall garden prep in the books.

Here’s a look at the weekend in photos:

Planting garlic | via printmyemotions.comMy favorite polka dot mud boots made a reappearance today as I planted my garlic.

Isn’t amazing that we plant these little cloves at the end of October in Minnesota and, if we’re lucky, they will over-winter under a warm layer of mulch – despite sub-zero temperatures and a cold, howling wind – and come up in the spring?
Autumn Blaze Maple | via printmyemotions.comMy new favorite fall photo – our Autumn Blaze Maple tree in our backyard. I used the Snapseed App (it’s free!) to magnify the colors a bit, but this tree is really quite stunning on its own.

Silver Maple | via printmyemotions.comI’m going overboard on the tree thing, but seriously, how could I not? This is the Silver Maple in our front yard. So lovely! Girls and their garden tools! My mother gave me this old electric trimmer a few years back and I can’t live without it in the spring and fall – it makes cutting back perennials and shrubs so much easier. I still have the original box for it – and it was purchased at Coast-To-Coast Hardware Store in Hector, my hometown! 🙂

Sea Salt Dinner Rolls | printmyemotions.comI made my first EVER dinner rolls from scratch today The recipe for Sea Salt Dinner Rolls came from this months’ Food Network magazine and it was much easier than I was expecting. I don’t know why I was so intimidated by dry active yeast for all these years. I’m pretty sure my Grandma Anderson and Aunt Shirley – excellent bread bakers – were watching from above with smiles on their faces. 🙂

Earl The Pug | via printmyemotions.comNo reason for this photo except to show this cute #pug mug!

Movie Night | via printmyemotions.comI was essentially on my own Saturday night. Teacher Man was spending the weekend “up north” with guy friends, and Joe had a good friend of his over for a sleepover. That left me enjoying the peaceful quiet of our porch, a glass of wine, and the move “Before Sunset.”

Multiples in the pantry | via printmyemotions.comAnd just for fun, I cleaned out our refrigerator this morning and came to the realization that I had three jars (um, three??) of sweet relish, two bottles of sriracha sauce, and two bottles of worcestershire sauce. Obviously I haven’t gotten any better at controlling my tendency to have multiples of many items in my kitchen. I’m proud to carry on the tradition that my Grandma Doris was so skilled at. 😉 (You can read about this tendency of mine in an older blog post here.)

Hope you have a great start to the week!
