Okay friends, I have totally been slacking on blog posts lately. I thought summer was supposed to give us more time for fun stuff? I felt like this weekend literally buzzed by on double speed. I think it must be because the countdown to school is really beginning in earnest. Teacher Man’s last week of vacay starts now (sniff!) and Joe only has two weeks before heading to high school (whaat?).

I’m not ready to let go of summer yet!

While I’m on ignore, I want to show you the fun project we put up on Saturday morning. It’s a piece of history – quite literally! – from Teacher Man’s family farm in Meyer, Iowa.

The family hasn’t owned the farm in decades but it is still affectionately called “the home place.” We found out a few weeks ago that inside the barn, there is a piece of wood that has the painted initials of Jerry’s great grandfather, his grandfather and most of his great uncles on that side of his family. (Gilbert Durben – or GD is Jerry’s grandpa. He was one of 15 kids total!!)

We enlisted the help of Jerry’s brother, sister-in-law, and father to head down to Meyer and see if they could take the piece of wood down and give it to us. Last weekend they were able to do just that — and now we have this fabulous piece of family history (along with some family photos) hanging in our four season porch.

Above is a picture of the barn – vintage vs. today, too. 🙂

Love how this whole project turned out … and it’s because of Teacher Man’s vision. I teased him that it was quite Pinterest-worthy!

In other news, we did some dogsitting last week for my brother’s English Bulldog, Leia. She was a sweetheart and we had a blast taking care of her.

Look at that face! 🙂

I enlisted Leia’s help with one of my LuLaRoe photo shoots, but she wasn’t in the mood to sit very still – ha!

And finally … we’ve got a bit of a weekly summer Saturday afternoon tradition going. Teacher Man and I head to the local pub – Hayes Public House – for beers and trivia. (We quiz each other using Trivial Pursuit cards – very old school and it’s so much fun!) If you ever get to Buffalo, I recommend you check Hayes out – great beer and a super fun, casual atmosphere!

Have a great start to your week, friends!
