Another turkey week has come and gone, and The Thanksgiving Feast is no longer. But oh boy, was it good!
My mom does a very classic Thanksgiving meal – roast turkey (no brining, no spatchcocking, no roulade, no complications – just perfectly roasted turkey), my Grandma’s amazing stuffing recipe, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce (homemade!), yams, and rolls. And did I mention three pies? Pumpkin (from me), pecan (my sister), and apple-cranberry (mom).
And my mom always sets a beautiful, Thanksgiving-inspired table:
Perfection.
Plus … mimosas (thanks, Dad!) and lefse clings with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, and cheese the morning after Thanksgiving. (Think … Norwegian breakfast burrito with the lefse as the wrap instead of a tortilla.)
Does it get any better than that? (My family’s lefse recipe is here, by the way. I can’t wait to make it … hopefully next weekend!)
And did I mention family time? We’re blessed.
And now it’s Sunday night, the long weekend is over, and I’m not quite ready to let go of the easy pace of a few days off. And by “easy pace”, I mean this:
- We picked our Christmas tree at The Rustic Garden, a local nursery in Buffalo.
- We decorated the house and the tree while catching “The Match” between Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods – albeit, a little different than Christmas tunes playing but it was quite fun! (We were #TeamPhil by the way.)
- We took Joe to Bohemian Rhapsody, which was a great show. How could it not be with all that awesome Queen music?
- Jerry and I snuck in a little Saturday afternoon date at Haye’s Public House in Buffalo. (I recommend a pint of the Dullahan or the Peanut Butter Porter!)
- We watched A Christmas Story and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, two of our favorites.
- I snuck in some online Christmas shopping this afternoon – plus ordered our Christmas cards. (#winning!)
- I baked some peanut butter chocolate chip bars, because well … I just need to bake sometimes.
Joe’s nutcracker collection is really growing! I’m afraid next year, we will need to find a new space.
Now I sit, switching between the new Hallmark Channel Christmas movie and the Vikings-Packers football game. 😉
Plus – I found these amazing clogs and now I can’t stop thinking about them. I know what you’re thinking … clogs? But yes, clogs! “Abba” clogs in fact. It might be fate. 😉
This is the trouble with Cyber Monday sales starting on Sunday … too dangerous.
How was your Thanksgiving weekend?
xoxo – Lara
It sounds like you had a wonderful, relaxing time with family!
