I have decided that I don’t have enough random writing time in my life. I’ve mentioned this before (here, for instance), but I love just sitting at the laptop, creating fun posts about a multitude of topics that have nothing to do with each other. It’s my creative outlet. And quite possibly my therapy session.
So on that note (and before I commence with my favorite images of this week), I give you my very random thoughts for the day:
- Am I the only one who doesn’t binge-watch television shows? The closest I get is Saturday morning, when I will have the Food Network on from about 8:30 am – 11:00 am. But here’s the deal – I’m not actually sitting down and watching it straight. I’m baking or cleaning or doing laundry or working out or some combination of any or all of these. I honestly don’t think I’m capable of carving 6-8 hours of free time in one or even two days to watch a run of an entire TV show.
- The two most dangerous things to hide in my office desk are mint M & M’s and Wheat Thins. (And when I say “hide,” I mean that I’m buying these, fully aware that they will be placed in the top drawer of my desk to be utilized by me as needed.) I don’t usually eat them both at the same time, but they cover my chocolate and salty cravings respectively and that, my friends, is dangerous. Very dangerous.
- I think I’ve been to a grocery store 3 out of the past 4 days. It’s like I live in Paris and go to the market every day to get my supplies for the evening meal. Only, it’s not Paris, it’s Walmart. And I’m driving there in my SUV. And I’m not looking stylish while I’m buying a baguette and a bottle of wine. Instead, I’m buying chicken nuggets and just feeling unorganized.
- My son has informed me it is “National Ugly Sweater Day,” and I’m not sure I should be impressed he’s aware of this, or concerned.
Okay, on to the photos!
Behold, my favorite cookies at Christmas. Which, oddly enough (given my love of baking), are about the easiest no-bake cookies you could ever make. Townhouse crackers + peanut butter + melted chocolate bark. That’s it. And the combination is sheer perfection, I tell you.
I’ve been blogging for Agriculture.com for a while now, but I still get downright giddy when I see my name and writing in print in Successful Farming magazine. When I was 18, I could not have foreseen this in my future but this just goes to show that life is full of little surprises.
Thursday night bliss = a glass of sauvignon blanc and a Nora Roberts novel. Sometimes it’s the simple pleasures in life that keep me in balance.
This little munchkin is turning two and we’re going to her birthday party on Saturday! She looks like this now:
And she is going to FREAK OUT when she sees her gift. Or maybe her parents will freak out. Nonetheless, I think she’s going to like it – a lot. 🙂
And finally … my coworker posted this on my Facebook wall this week and I can pretty much say that she nailed it. I’m really not all that complicated after all. 😉
Happy Friday, friends, and I hope you have an amazing weekend!

Love reading your blog! Sometimes I think we are sisters whose paths haven’t crossed at the grocery store while picking up the items we need!
Thanks, Shannon! And I agree – I see you cooking and baking (on Facebook) so much of what I would love too. 🙂 Glad you found my blog!

Hey Lara
I am totally with you on the tv watching thing. I am a fan of the DVR as we can pause for 20 minutes and watch our hour long show in 40ish minutes. I could easily live without a television, but don’t mess with my fiber optic internet!
I saw your article in Successful Farming magazine. Congratulations, that is fun!
Enjoy your book and have fun at the birthday party!
I am so glad I’m not the only one, Robyn! I seriously couldn’t sit and watch TV that long … I’m with you, DVR and a 40 minute show and that’s good! LOL Hope you and your family are having a wonderful December, heading into the holidays!
